Mac Up The Amp Lipstick Review and Swatches

Mac Up The Amp Review and Swatches

MAC Up the Amp Lipstick ($15) is explained on the MAC website as a "jasmine violet". I assume that's an actually great description for it - it's a purple lipstick, but more violet (blue-toned purple) instead purple (also tone of blue and red). It's tool in tone, but it has that tip of lavender that lightens it up and brings a milkiness to the colour. On tan/darker skin tones, it gives off a gorgeous lilac pink tone.

It's certainly not a day-to-day shade and is a little bit edgy and daring, but when I'm in among those moods where I intend to look a bit fierce, I consistently reach for purple lipstick.

It in fact took me a couple of puts on to get use to this color - at first I thought it was dark and also dull. I was initially mixing it with lighter lilac shades (such as MAC Saint Germain, etc) to tone it down, up until the point that I merely started wearing it solo. It's one of my faves now!

It's the "Amplified" formula, which I assume is one of the most effective. It glides on smooth, creamy and the colour is nontransparent. It has a glossy surface and doesn't dry my lips.
When I use purple-toned lipstick, I like to keep the rest of my make-up simple as the primary focus is the lips. I likewise never bypass highlighter as I want to put some light back in my face since the lipstick dims up my look.

I think that's an actually great description for it - it's a purple lipstick, however a lot more violet (blue-toned purple) instead purple (also tone of blue and red). It's medium in tone, but it has that tip of lavender that lightens it up and brings a milkiness to the shade.
